Who is eligible to apply for a card?

UK residents aged 18 years and over with a UK bank or building society account. You will need to provide a landline telephone number for home or work and have a regular source of income through full-time or part-time employment of more than 16 hours per week (this can be you or your partner), or be a student, retired or on incapacity benefit. Finally, you need to have a clean credit history, ie, no arrears, defaults, County Court Judgements (CCJs), bankruptcies or Individual Voluntary Agreements (IVAs).

Is applying online secure?

Yes. Our application process uses industry standard security protocols and 128 bit SSL encryption. This prevents your personal details from being viewed by anyone else.

How long will it take to complete the application?

An application takes about 10 minutes to complete. Please have the following to hand when making your application:

  • your address details for the last 3 years
  • your bank or building society details
  • your employers name and address
  • the details of your other credit or store cards if you would like to apply for a Balance Transfer
  • a pen and paper to write down your application reference number

How will I know how much I owe?

You'll be sent statements regularly through the post detailing the transactions you've made on your card and when your bill is due to be paid.

Can I choose the date on which I wish to pay my bill?

No, we cannot change the date by which card bills are to be paid.

What happens if I don't pay my account in full each month?

After making the minimum repayment on your account, it is up to you to decide on how much more to pay. Any balance that's unpaid will be carried forward and will show on next month's statement along with any interest that's accrued.

Will I be able to use my card as soon as it arrives?

For security, you will first need to sign the back of the card and then activate it by calling us on the number shown on your card.

Can I withdraw cash using my card?

Yes. You can withdraw cash from any ATM that displays the MasterCard sign both in the UK and abroad. Please see the Terms and Conditions for the charges payable.

What is the minimum monthly payment I need to make?

You must pay either a minimum monthly payment equal to 1% of the Principal amount owing as shown on your Statement along with any outstanding Interest, charges and fees, or £5, whichever is the
greater, within 20 days of the Statement Date. You can pay us more than the minimum if you want but if your Outstanding Balance is less than £5 you must pay your Outstanding Balance in full.

How long will it be before I am charged interest on purchases?

Depending on when you make your purchase and your statement date, you can have up to 50 days without paying interest.

How do I make payments on my card account?

You have a number of choices. By bank giro, by cheque using the payment envelope sent with your account statement, by debit card over the telephone, and using telephone or internet banking.
